Parent’s Night Out is a service that Bodies in Motion, and many other companies, provide to parents usually on Friday nights once or a few times a month. It allows the parents to have a night out, away from their child so they can run errands, go on a date, or take a nap.
However, after talking with some parents that have participated in a Parent’s Night Out, we realized that some have no idea what to do with their free time. After spending so long with growing kids, it can be hard to find something to do out of the blue without them. That’s why we’ve gathered the five best things we’ve heard our parents talk about doing during their Parent’s Night Out. Perhaps these will give you an idea of how you can spend your night, or maybe you want to try one of them. Either way, Parent’s Night Out is perfect for giving you at least one night to relax in whatever way you prefer ... as long as you can pick your child up at the end of course. One: Sleep As a parent, sleep might be the most fun you’ve ever had with free time. We know that feeling and don’t judge. Many of our parents have no urge to go out and have fun at the end of the week. Some relish the idea of just having a few hours to go home and rest. To up the ante, we recommend making it into a self-care night full of facemasks, bubble baths, incense, and maybe even a massage before your nap. Not only will you feel refreshed, but you’ll also be clean and uninterrupted during your relaxing soak for what might be the first time in a while. Two: Shop Parents of young children can’t leave them at home to do anything. That includes shopping, whether at the mall or the grocery store. Many of our parents are experienced in using the Parent’s Night Out time to go into Boise and obtain what they need from the store. Sometimes that’s a trip to the mall for a new outfit, while other times it’s a trip to the grocery store to get the essentials. We suggest creating a list before you bring your child to us to get the most use of your time. We know you’ll find shopping sans child more relaxing and you might even walk away with less spent. Three: Sweat Working out can be hard with children. For those that love working out, we understand just how irritating it can be never to have time for a proper workout. WIth Parent’s Night Out, you’ll have time to exercise and even get some additional tasks taken care of. If you’re looking to get in shape and aren’t sure where to start, we recommend trying classes or just going on a fast walk. Walking is the best start to a healthy lifestyle. Four: Sing We’d be remiss if we didn’t suggest a date for your free night. Karaoke might seem “old fashion” or “lame,” but we say go for it! Doing something that makes you look and feel silly with the person you love can create a stronger bond than simply going to the movies and sitting next to each other (not that we have anything against movies either.) Five: Sightsee New to Boise? Perfect! It’s time to take a look around this wonderful town. Been here a while? Time to pretend to be a tourist for the night. Sightseeing, even if you’ve lived somewhere a while, can help you reconnect to your home. We suggest going on a self-made walking tour by searching “Things to do in Boise” on Google. They’ll provide you with a list of things that tourists often do for free, giving you many choices in planning your night. For extra fun, wear your best tourist outfit.

When was the last time that you went on a date? Most people hear the word "date" and think about a boyfriend and girlfriend going to the movies, out for dinner, or staying home for "Netflix and chill." However, dates aren't only for the unmarried and young.
Today we're giving Boise residents a new idea. It's time to take your significant other on a date night for some ax throwing. Ax throwing, at Bodies in Motion, of course, is the perfect way to spark change in your relationship, get to know each other better, and try something new without fear. Who knows, you might even find you're the next ax throwing champion! The Case for Dates When you first met your significant other, you had to go on dates to get to know one another. Many times the dating period stops once you meet that special someone and the fun and excitement is now scarce and few. In that case, you wouldn't be alone. Many long term couples don't take planned time for dates. Before we can get into why our ax throwing is so helpful, we need to talk about why dating, even after commitment, is vital. Dates are great for commited couples to reconnect again. If you and your significant other have been working relentlessly, you might have had very little time to sit down and talk to each other like old times. Scheduling a date will give you that time and allow you to relax. Dates are also great ways to try something new together. If you've been feeling like everything is getting just a little too routine, then a date to somewhere new, or involving something you've never tried before, could be just what you need to make life a little bit more fun. Who wants to go to the bowling alley for the 1000th time when you could try rock climbing or ax throwing together? Who knows, you might find that you both have a new passion or hobby! Why Ax Throwing is the Perfect Date When it comes to date ideas, a common list is a dinner, movies, bowling, hiking, or shopping. Maybe you threw in Top Golf or a shooting range to your list. However, Ax throwing rarely tops or even makes it onto a date idea list. Due to that, you can bet that your planned date will be something he (or she) never expects. Not only will that get you points, but it allows for both of you to try your hand at something completely new and unexpected. Additionally, at Bodies in Motion, ax throwing isn't just about throwing axes, though that may be the bulk of it, it's also about having fun and having a conversation. Unlike the movies, ax throwing allows you to talk to one another. The more, the merrier as our lanes allow for conversations between the whole group or just the couple. Lastly, if your still not convinced to take date night to an ax-throwing studio, then we have one last thing to tell you, think about more exciting or fun date night options. Many people would start to limit their options to where drinks are available. However, one might not want to drink on a weeknight. That's why we suggest ax throwing as not only the perfect date but the perfect date for a weekday as well! Without drinking, you will have the time of your life learning something new, talking with others, getting to know one another, and in general having fun. No more waiting for the weekend to enjoy a night out, come to Bodies in Motion for an ax-throwing date today! Of course, you could go somewhere else, but you are on the Bodies in Motion blog after all. Team building is vital to the long-term success of a business. Many times these sessions are done in classes that offer lessons and activities. However, some companies don’t have the money for that. Doing teamwork sessions at work can reduce the cost and increase the reward in ways that after work sessions can not.
Think About the Goal When you are looking to have a teambuilding session, you should first think about your goal for the session. This could be something broad for the whole company or specific to one division. The goal should be SMART. In other words, Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely. A few examples of general teambuilding goals are listed for inspiration.
Develop the List of Attendees Once you have your goal, you will need to determine who will attend. If you’re focusing on improving communications among your marketing teams, your list should be the market team. On the other hand, if you’re working on improving relationships among executives, then the list should be all the executives. Creating a complete list of who will be attending will help with planning all the different aspects of the event including coordination and what will be done. Make sure to note of those people’s schedule and any limitations that they may have. Create the Plan Once you have the plan for who will be attending and what the goal is, you need to create the plan for what they will be doing. Think about what their interests, struggles, and strong points are. Following is a list of what you could do at your team building workshop and what it helps with.
Create the Schedule Once you have your activities together, next, you’ll need to make the game plan. This is the calendar that you will follow that day. Make sure you’re planning based on when people will be there and what makes the most sense in terms of the order. You’ll want to make lively tasks interspersed with the boring tasks to make sure people are staying interested. Don’t forget to leave time for breaks and food if you aren’t making food into an activity. Send the Plan This final step is optional. If you know that the team will all be there, then you do have the option to surprise them with a teambuilding day. In its way, that will teach them to go with the flow and expect the unexpected. However, if you opt to let them know about their training day, then don’t forget to tell them to bring anything they might need and that they all need to be present on that day. If your child loves obstacle courses, they might enjoy watching the American Ninja Warrior, on TV. That show has turned many playgrounds, living rooms, and back yards into obstacle courses to be overcome.
Trees with ropes are now the Rope Swing. Couches and recliners are the Sonic Curve. While you may worry about the health of your home furniture, the American Ninja Warrior is perfect for teaching your children life skills. Watching it at night will get them enthused to try new physical activities that challenge them while taking a class will allow them to focus that energy safely. Today, we’re going to go over just how this class can help your children. 1. Fitness Becomes Fun Finding ways for your children to be active can be challenging. However, the American Ninja Warrior took care of much of that work for parents. Children are inspired to do better and work harder through unique stories told throughout the show. Many of the competitors were sitting at home when they thought, “I can do that too.” If your kid likes watching the show, allow them to hear those stories then ask if they want to try it too. The classes will show them that fitness can be fun rather than boring as they might think. Since kids love to mimic what they see on TV, this show gives them a way to do it safely by encouraging safe fitness. 2. Teamwork is More Than Working Together During the day, children learn all about the importance of working together. However, it can be harder to teach them the less visible parts of teamwork. This show is the perfect way to explain that. Through the American Ninja Warrior, they will see how important it is to show sportsmanship and appreciation to other competitors and team members. Each of the competitors in the show, have worked hard to get where they are. Likewise, children in their class will have worked just as hard to make it to where they are. Training in a fitness class such as this will show them the importance of working as a team both literally and through encouragement and appreciation of others. 3. There is No Such Thing as Failure In life, it can be hard to bounce back from failure. As with most things, this fact is even more pronounced in children. Losing a match or game can be hard and often will lead to a tantrum. However, with an American Ninja Warrior class, failure doesn’t exist. Through these classes, they will learn to solve puzzles and grow stronger. There is no such thing as loosing. Rather, they will begin to look at fitness as a game of improvement. They will begin to say, “what can I do differently next time.” 4. True Success Takes Time Though there is no such thing as loosing, the true success of a course or obstacle will take time. In the show, the competitors have put themselves through hours of training and practice. Your child will quickly learn what it means to be decided to something that they love. Over time, they will see themselves improve and at the end of a course, they will be proud to see how far they have come. 5. Anyone Can Do It The American Ninja Warrior has shown children and adults alike never to give up. From competitors missing limbs to having painful and oftentimes debilitating diseases, this show has done a great job of letting the world see how powerful anyone can be. Sending your child to a ninja warrior class can reinforce how important not giving up is. If your child has a mobility or mental issue, this class can allow them to see how they can overcome their issue by thinking differently and pushing themselves further. Overall, both the show and the ninja warrior class are great for children’s minds. They can see fitness as something fun while learning valuable skills they will need as they grow into adults. If your child has shown interest, think about taking them to an open gym night at Bodies in Motion to see if it’s something they could get into full time. If you think they’re ready, sign up to let, them start a new adventure in skill and fitness. Mother’s day is in just a few days. Though many will have their plans set, some will be looking for something to do. In many cases, people will have ideas for dinner but will lack things that they can do during the day. That’s why today we’ve come up with ideas about things that you can do with your mothers this Mother’s Day.
As usual, Bodies in Motion is all about being active. That’s why this list of ten things to do on Mother’s Day is all about getting your family moving. If you have ideas, don’t feel shy about leaving them in the comments. You never know who could need a little more inspiration! 1. Take a Weekend Getaway Though it might seem like it’s a little late to plan a vacation, you might be surprised! Check Airbnb listings in cities that you love (and are within driving distance) to see what you could do for a night somewhere new. You’ll be able to explore a new city, eat new foods, and get out of the house for a short weekend getaway with the family! 2. Family Yoga If you’re looking to try something new, then try taking a family yoga class. You can find yoga classes all around major cities and often times. You can find specialty classes for beginners or groups. This family sized version of Mommy & Me will give you a bit of exercise as well as new memories to last a lifetime. 3. Go Outside No matter if you like hiking, camping, or glamping going outside is the perfect way to connect with your family and mother. Taking a weekend away from technology will allow you to bond as a group and talk about all the fun you’ve had together over the years. Don’t forget to pack your favorite campsite treats so that you can have a treat for all your activity for the day. 4. Host a Dance Party If you have a Wii, PlayStation, or Xbox, you can host a dance part using games like Just Dance. Another option is to use Youtube and look at options like the FItness Marshal. Lastly, just play music! In the end, you’re looking to burn some calories and have fun with your family. Let the younger generation teach the older generation, “how it’s done now,” and the other way around! 5. Garden Together If your mom is into gardening, then get the family together to get out and garden with her. This will allow for the whole family to take part in something that the mother enjoys while also getting some activity in during the day! Don’t forget to bring her something new she can add to her garden to commemorate this event! 6. Have a Massage Whether you go with the whole family, as a couple, or with a Mommy & Me package, booking a message is as good for your body as a whole workout. It’s a great way to relieve stress and flush toxins from your body. Try a hot massage followed by a good swim to get the whole effect this cleansing idea can bring. 7. Go to a Concert If you like the dancing idea, why not take it a step further? Pick a concert that your mother would love and get spots in the lawn. Use these spots to dance and sing like no one is watching. After all, who are you if you can’t have fun with your mom every once in a while? 8. Plan a Picnic If you live near a park or want to drive to one, then going to a picnic can be a great way to get out of the house and have some fun. Make sure to pack your frisbee so that you can have fun in the park before or after you eat. Other options include biking to the park or even going on a run while you are there! 9. Set up a Scavenger Hunt If your mom likes surprises, try setting up a mother’s day scavenger hunt. You can add in memories to make this a scavenger hunt to remember. Let the kids take part in its creation so that they feel connected to the celebration! 10. Help Her Explore a Passion Project If your mother has been talking about photography, then help her get into it. Get a cheaper digital camera and take her around town to find the best spots for photos. On the other hand, if she wants to learn to cook, take her to a cooking class. Though this could end up being less active than some of the other ideas, helping her with something she loves will be sure to make her happy. An open play gym is a place where your child can go and play in a safe place with slides, ball pits, foam pots, trampolines, or other "gym" style pieces of equipment. Our open play area is filled with slides, obstacle courses, and other creative toys. These parent-supervised indoor play areas are bright, colorful, and clean. Most importantly, they allow your child to explore and learn with other children.
Our open play is available to children from one year and up. Unlike other gyms, our position as a fitness center with many classes has lead us to create an open gym them offers more than just the traditional play mats and ball pits. Children also have the availability to try a ninja warrior course, have a free disco, or create art while at the open gym. What Does a Child Get from Open Play Time? When a child is taken to an open gym, they can learn and play in a safe area that other children will be playing in. This results in increased socialization, growth of physical and cognitive skills, and positive interactions. As your child gets older, they can learn more complex ideas. Older children at our open gym will learn perseverance, problem-solving, and positivity through interactions with our giant lego set and obstacle courses. How is Open Play Different Than a PlayGround? In an open play gym, you are in a clean environment that has specifically designed toys, all of which are working. On the other hand, a playground is a place where you can let your child run free on pay sets outside and in the sun. Looking at both of those statements, you can see that they each have their benefits. However, when looking at differences that would make open play important, there are a few things that stand out. Cleanliness - Though children don't need to be protected from germs at all times, the cleanliness of open gyms is great for allowing play without having to deal with dirty clothes or sickness. All Weather - In an open gym, you will be able to play rain or shine. Though playgrounds are a great place for activity, they are limited by the weather in the area. More Activities - While a playground can't have removable parts, an open gym can. Having large legos, art stations, and building blocks allows for new types of play not available on a playground. Safety - Depending on what you have access to, you might find an open play facility to be much safer than the playground that your children could use. Also, open play areas will often have workers that are trained as well as first aid kits should something happen. That's not to say that open play areas are better overall. We believe that children should get out whenever they can. Open play is just one addition to your arsenal! What Tips the Scale? When you go to a playground, you are going to sit a watch a child play for however long you are there. On the other hand, our open play sessions allow your child to play while you work out at a fitness class. This allows for both you and your children to get exercise, socialization, and a new challenge. Overall, children require activity and socialization. Open play areas are vital additions to a child's life as they allow for additional outlets of creativity and energy. They will be able to learn about leadership, problem-solving, determination, and positivity through interacting with their surroundings and the people in them. Previously, we’ve done a lot of talking about fitness for children and adults. However, we offer much more than simple fitness classes. While Bodies in Motion may have started with just one class but we now have over ten separate and distinct offerings. Today, we’re talking about five of the other classes we offer and how they help people grow better and stronger.
Martial Arts Duncan Richardson, the Bodies in Motion founder, along with his wife Rachel, have been teaching martial arts for over 20 years. As such, they have created a program that empowers children and develops character in every single class. Bodies in Motion tries to create a stimulating class that ignites activity, builds self-defense skills, character, and lets children have fun with each session. Upon going through this class, children and adults can learn these valuable skills alongside making connections and friendships with others. Open Play Open plat is the most basic class we offer. It’s where your children (from one year up) can enjoy tearing through a massive play structure where they can build, play, or create in a safe and friendly environment. Allowing children to play in this type of space enables them to expend energy where rain and outside forces will not interfere. They will be able to use their minds to come up with games and complete obstacle courses. Depending on the day you come, we have daily specials during open play to further encourage creativity. These include the Mini Ninja Warrior Challenge, Art Attack Wednesdays, and Disco Party Friday! Ninja Warrior Speaking of the Ninja Warrior, did you know that’s a class we offer? We offer three separate ways to complete our Ninja Warrior training. First, the Ninja Warrior Experience. It’s the perfect way for first timers or couples looking for a date or a new activity to try. Next, the Kids Ninja Warrior Classes. Your child will be able to improve strength balance, and agility as well as self-control and positivity though these classes designed for ages 5 to 13. Finally, our Ninja Open Gym and Competitions will give all ages a reason to test and develop their skills on their own. Team Building Adults looking to build bonds within their company will love our team building classes. Offering options for a four-person team or a 150 person team, we can help you form relationships and become a more effective force. Through Axe Throwing, Missionpossible, Team Building Express, Ninja Warrior VS Ropes Course, and Escape Ropes you will be able to choose a course that represents your team and help to focus on trust, connection, and positivity. Ropes Course If you’re looking for a way to challenge yourself, a ropes course is the perfect way to do so. Our three versions of the ropes course will help you to test your skill, work as a team, and problem solve. Adults and children 10 and up will be able to enjoy this activity. If you’re interested in black lights and a glow in the dark course, you can try a cosmic rope adventure or cosmic rope birthday for a ropes course shrouded in darkness with black lights, music, and disco lights. On the other hand, those looking for a traditional challenge can try their hand at open or escape ropes! Healthy moms and dads can have a hard time finding inspiration and new ideas. Sometimes it’s
hard to get along at the gym when most of the people around you “just don’t understand” your daily struggles. Luckily, there are bloggers that can help. Today we’re going to look at the top five healthy mom blogs (dads are invited too) that will help you get your health in line. To find these, we looked at a bunch of blogs and focused on quality information, ease of use, and general uniqueness. Let’s begin! 5. Dear Crissy Last on our list of healthy mom blogs you need to read is Dear Crissy. This blog is a cooking, DIY and wellness blog. Dear Crissy looks into self-care, health and healing foods. It’s laid out simple with an easy to follow and search through design. Crissy is a mother to two from Ohio. You can expect her writing to gain inspiration from her love of Jesus, being creative, and her two children. We love her blog due to the well written and diverse nature of the topics. There’s something for every parent looking to get healthier. Children of this generation are growing up with technology. Unlike you or your parents, they’ve never known a world without video games or smartphones. Mix this with how much they might see you on your phone, and it’s no surprise they think technology is amazing. However, that’s not to say that it’s your fault. Rather, it’s expected.
What it can lead to though, is our responsibility as parents. In another blog post, we talked about how to sneak workouts into everyday life. Previous to that, we talked about how your child will do what they see you doing. Adding these two together, you might start together where we are going with this topic of fitness and technology. Technology Isn’t Bad Unlike the outdoors, technology can be turned off and on. It’s also the cheapest way to help kids get active. If your child goes to a daycare, you might know what we’re talking about. Songs like Baby Shark and Going on a Bear Hunt can get kids active while inside. If you need ideas, you can check websites like Pinterest for ideas or check on Google for fun classes they, or you can take! How to Integrate Fitness and Technology: When you work with a child, it’s important to realize that you’re setting up their foundation for life. Though daunting, you will be in charge of making sure that they know what’s good to eat and how to take care of themselves. Here’s a quick five-step guide on how to show them that technology can be used for good. Limit Technology Time The first step in integrating technology and fitness is to limit technology time. That might sound strange, but it’s important to get into the details. You’ll be using technology in your workouts. However, we don’t need to sit for hours watching TV in the afternoon (no matter how much we all want to.) Try to limit the amount of time you’re just sitting watching TV or playing video games. Likewise, ensure that you and your family has a place for phones by the door or in the kitchen. If you don’t have your phone on the armrest all afternoon, you’ll be less likely to spend hours scrolling through social media. Plan Time for Fitness The obvious thing to do when you want to get in shape is plan time for working out. Each afternoon or morning, try to plan aside 30 minutes to an hour for physical fitness. This will ensure that you can get in the workout, technology or not. After all, you can’t integrate technology with a workout if you have no time to get in shape! Use YouTube YouTube is a wealth of fitness inspiration. You can use the app on your phone or even on your video game consols. Try looking up trainers like Fitness Marshal or Popsugar for family-friendly workouts that everyone will look forward too. If you have something you like in particular, for example, yoga, search around to see what you can find. Think Active There are movement-based video games that you can enjoy with your family. When you feel like changing it up, why not break out some Just Dance with your children? Make it even more fun by creating a contest. Whoever wins doesn’t have to clean their dishes for the day! Find Inspiration As alluded to, technology is a great way to find inspiration for a workout. Apps like Pinterest are ripe with fitness ideas and programs. You can even find kid-friendly apps to download and exercise with. The sky is the limit when you’re using technology to be productive rather than postpone productivity! Working out doesn’t have to be something devoid of technology. If your child is like many their age, they might balk at the idea of “just going for a run.” However, no matter the age, technology can be used to get them moving. Try dancing and moving to YouTube or video games. Don’t forget to use apps like Pinterest for inspiration and check the app store for fitness apps that your whole family can use. Many people can get behind a good fitness class. With classes like Zumba and Piyo as well as Ninja Warrior Training, there is a class for everyone’s fitness style. However, Not everyone can go to a class every day. Sometimes, you won’t even have time to go for a run. That’s when you need to sneak in some workout time. Both children and adults should work to get at least thirty minutes a day to stay healthy and grow stronger.
Sneaking in a workout isn’t something you should think hard about. It’s all about small changes to your lifestyle and mind. Start with one of these tips and add in another after a few days. Changing your habits like this will help you stick to it without getting overwhelmed. We’ve gathered five things you can change in your life to sneak in an extra workout. Park Farther Away The first and possibly most obvious is parking further away from your destination. If you go to work each day, park in the back of the parking lot. When you go shopping, park in the back there too. If you take your kid to school each day, try parking a few blocks away and walking the last bit so that you can both get in some extra walking time together. Though it doesn’t seem like much, parking further out and walking can add quite a few steps to your daily count. If you have a step counter, track it yourself to see the difference it can make. Never Take Another Elevator Elevators are a great way to halt movement. Rather than use one, try walking up the stairs. If you’ve ever been to the gym, then you know that walking up the stairs is an actual workout, called the Stairstepper. Why not add that into your daily routine? If you work on the fifth floor, you’ll be able to get at least ten extra floors worth of workout by the end of the day! Don’t just let this affect your work life. If you go to the mall, don’t take the escalator. If you need to go to the airport, walk to your terminal rather than take the moving sidewalks. Similarly, if you live in an apartment building, or have to go to a meeting, always walk over wait. Walking Lunch When you take a lunch break, what do you do with the time after you finish eating? Many people take a break by talking to others and sitting on their phone. However, why don’t you try walking around your building? This is a great way to get outside and energized during the workday. If you have the ability, try to convince a friend to walk with you each day. This will keep both of you motivated and give you someone to talk to during the workout. Some people choose to take a 15-minute lunch break and a 30-minute workout within their hour-long lunch. While this wouldn’t be a hidden workout, if your office has a gym, it’s a great option to get in better shape. Replace TV Time Chances are you aren’t so busy as to not have time at the end of the day to watch TV. Rather than sit down with your family for TV time, try getting moving. You can walk to the dog or go to a fitness class. If you want time to veg out, we’re not here to judge. However, you can still sneak in a workout. Next time you are sitting down for TV, try doing something during the commercial breaks. You can do pushups for one commercial, then jumping jacks, squats, and other things until the commercial break is over. This can get you 15 minutes of a workout for every hour of TV you watch! Morning Stretch When your first wakeup, what do you do? If you are like many Americans, then you probably check your phone. However, you can change this. Tomorrow when you wake up, get out of bed and do some stretches. Adding yoga to your morning routine can help you get started with your day faster! Working out in the morning is great for your mental and physical health. It allows for the increased flow of blood first thing in the morning and let you set the tone for the day. If you don’t know what to do, look up some videos on Youtube. Morning yoga is a great thing to search so that you can get your day started right. Working out doesn’t have to be hard. If you have time for some classes, we’d love to have you. However, even if you don’t, there are ways to sneak in workouts during your day. It’s vital for both you and your family to get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day to keep healthy and strong. |
