About Us

Bodies in Motion is a local company that started in a 1,000 sq. ft. space on Vista Ave. over 20 years ago. Except, it wasn't called Bodies in Motion.

Believe it or not, we were a martial art school, and our purpose was to Ignite Activity and Encourage Empowerment. Martial arts was the means by which our founders did that.

Duncan and Rachel, our founders, have taught thousands of students in the Treasure Valley, and have promoted several hundred to Black Belt.

Duncan and his sister Mia St. John, pioneered the first Fitness Kickboxing program (Thai-Robics) in Idaho, which exploded in popularity upon the release of Tae Bo.

After empowering kids and adults in Taekwondo and Fitness Kickboxing classes, since 1998, they felt they could make a bigger impact in the community through play, entertainment, learning and fitness.

Everything they did had to abide by their purpose:
1. Ignite Activity
2. Encourage Empowerment

For 2 years, Duncan and Rachel brainstormed the perfect facility in which they could make a bigger impact. They even traveled in search of said facility to emulate, but never found a center that resonated with them. They were either all entertainment, or all fitness, and none seem to have the underlining philosophy of empowering people.

Creating our name was one of the toughest challenges for our founders. Duncan and Rachel wanted a name that captured it all, but didn't focus on any one aspect. Having gone to school to become an engineer, Duncan was always fond of Sir Isaac Newton and his Laws of Motion.

1st Law of Motion: ...A body in motion will stay in motion, until acted upon by an external force.
Duncan thought of the 1st Law of Motion more as a metaphor for life. When Duncan introduced the name to Rachel, family, and friends, it was an instant hit!

It encapsulated everything that would be done in the facility, and it's metaphorically meaning sealed the deal.

Coincidentally, Duncan and Rachel's first born is named Isaac.

In January of 2011, Duncan and Rachel closed their martial art school on Friday and re-opened it in Bodies in Motion on Monday, just 2 days after their grand opening. And, ever since that opening day, we've had the pleasure of igniting activity in over 60,000 guests.

Our founders, Duncan and Rachel Richardson, who are still very active in the company, have a deep passion for activity and empowering others.

Duncan and Rachel have fostered a culture at Bodies in Motion centered around 7 Core Values and a solid purpose.

Core Values
1. Commitment to Guests
2. Commitment to Work
3. Unique & Innovative
4. Always Learning & Knowing

5. Camaraderie
6. Motion
7. Fun
Bodies in Motion Purpose
We are committed to igniting activity and encouraging empowerment.

And, our long range goal, often known as a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) is, "To be the definitive leader in servicing people, in high quality activities, wherever they are."

Duncan received his degree in Civil Engineering from Boise State University. He is 5th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and spent a decade competing nationally and internationally, while trying to secure a spot on the US Team. Duncan also competed on American Ninja Warrior in 2016.

Rachel received her degree in Marketing from Boise State University, where she also cheered. During Rachel's last two years at BSU, she became a professional cheerleader. Rachel is also a Black Belt in Taekwondo. She also works twice as hard as Duncan;).

Stay tuned as Bodies in Motion continues to grow. You'll be seeing us in a second location very soon!

What Our Clients Are Saying

Awesome place to take kiddos to use up their energy. Our son is almost 2. What I liked about this place was that we could join him in exploring the play area. The slides are big enough. They also have adult classes. I love their kickboxing class.

Becca M.

I have a 2 year old and an 8 month old. Mornings here are lovely when it's quiet- the 2 year old can climb and slide every where while the 8 month old can crawl around on the cushioned ground. The coffee is delicious too!
